Chris
Woodland is a registered trade mark agent who regularly prepares
and pursues registrations of design marks (logos), trade marks,
certification marks and "official" marks. He also acts for
clients on renewal applications and transfer, purchase and
licence agreements for intellectual property, and provides
advice on opposition and infringement proceedings. Chris's
experience in intellectual property law includes work on software
licensing agreements, cross-border copyright agreements, the
relationship of intellectual property ownership and the Competition
Act, and the development of memorandums of understanding for
developing technologies and confidentiality agreements for
trade secrets. Chris is an associate member of the Intellectual
Property Institute of Canada.
As part of
his business and technology law practice Chris has worked with
immigration officials to secure permission for European and
American citizens to work in Canada, and for Canadian citizens
to work in the United States. His work on Canada - United States
immigration matters includes situations of international application,
many of which extend beyond the scope of the North American
Free Trade Agreement.
Chris advises
a wide range of business organizations, from small proprietors
to large corporations, on general corporate and commercial
matters, including corporate structuring, legal due diligence,
bids and agreements for purchase and sale, corporate financing,
and mergers and acquisitions. Chris acts for a number of First
Nation economic development organizations, including corporations,
limited partnerships and joint ventures.
