Scott Whitby joined MLT from a major national firm in 2009. His practice focus is on corporate and commercial matters and business transactions involving the oil, natural gas and electricity industries. Scott's experience in these areas is extensive and includes international and cross-border energy transactions, mergers and acquisitions, oil and natural gas exploration, development and production projects and transactions, power generation project development and operation, joint ventures and corporate reorganizations. His clients include domestic and foreign exploration and production companies, pipeline companies, energy trading companies, energy industry infrastructure and support companies and First Nations-owned enterprises.

  • Counsel to an Alberta First Nation on a hydro-electric facility joint venture.
  • Counsel to an Alberta-based electricity generator in connection with a multi-million dollar tolling arrangement at an Alberta electricity generating facility.
  • Counsel and assistant to counsel for acquisitions and divestments of interests in crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids pipelines, natural gas processing and extraction facilities and other operating assets.
  • Counsel to Canadian, US and multi-national energy companies in connection with corporate and operational restructuring transactions.
  • Counsel and local agent on a number of international and cross-border energy projects, including financing, securitization and construction.
