Heather Spicer joined MLT Calgary from a firm in North Vancouver where she practised primarily First Nations Law and Civil Litigation. Heather has researched a wide range of legal issues affecting First Nations including First Nations rights, title, the duty to consult, leases, environmental issues, fishing, water rights, reserve land and status. She has also worked in the areas of family law, wills and estates, trusts, contracts, land titles, and civil procedure in the First Nations context and more generally.

Heather has appeared before the British Columbia Provincial Court and Supreme Court, the Federal Court of Canada, and the British Columbia Environmental Appeals Board.

Prior to embarking on her career in the law, Heather directed the operations of a post-secondary funding program for First Nations students in programs in Canada and abroad. She also worked as an education counselor for the Whitefish Lake First Nation in Alberta. Heather has been a long-time volunteer with the Girl Guides of Canada and the YMCA.
