Garnet Matsuba began his
legal career in 1985 with a major Edmonton firm before moving
to Calgary to focus on tax planning and implementation. He returned
to Edmonton in 1992 to lead the Tax Group of a prominent firm
and subsequently co-founded a corporate/commercial boutique firm.
Garnet joined MLT's Tax Group in 2006 where his experience in
designing tax-efficient business structures, tax planning, corporate
reorganization and international tax planning complements and
strengthens the firm's Tax Planning and Tax Dispute Resolution
Group.
Garnet excelled in his university studies, winning the T. Eaton
Company Gold Medal on earning his Bachelor of Commerce Degree in
1981 at the age of 18. His performance in law school earned him
the Judges' Bronze Medal in Law in 1984. Among other achievements
as a student, Garnet was selected Young Canadian Achiever for Edmonton-Strathcona
and named the Alberta representative to the Federal Advisory Committee
for International Youth Year in 1985.
Garnet is an enthusiastic collector of sports memorabilia and serves
as a statistician for the Edmonton Oilers at select home games.
