Business Law

Garnet Matsuba began his legal career in 1985 with a major Edmonton firm before moving to Calgary to focus on tax planning and implementation. He returned to Edmonton in 1992 to lead the Tax Group of a prominent firm and subsequently co-founded a corporate/commercial boutique firm. Garnet joined MLT's Tax Group in 2006 where his experience in designing tax-efficient business structures, tax planning, corporate reorganization and international tax planning complements and strengthens the firm's Tax Planning and Tax Dispute Resolution Group.

Garnet excelled in his university studies, winning the T. Eaton Company Gold Medal on earning his Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1981 at the age of 18. His performance in law school earned him the Judges' Bronze Medal in Law in 1984. Among other achievements as a student, Garnet was selected Young Canadian Achiever for Edmonton-Strathcona and named the Alberta representative to the Federal Advisory Committee for International Youth Year in 1985.
