Randy Brunet has focused a significant portion of his corporate
and commercial practice on information technology issues for
approximately 17 years . During that time he has acted as counsel
for the largest Saskatchewan-based provider of information
technology services, in the role of lead counsel for several
complex outsourcing transactions. Randy has also assisted numerous
clients in their negotiations for services and software with
information technology service providers. His experience in
representing both customers and vendors brings a balance and
solution orientated approach to the negotiation process.
Randy's experience with information technology law includes negotiating
and drafting licensing agreements; software development, implementation,
maintenance and support agreements; outsourcing agreements; service
bureau and data centre agreements; hardware purchase and maintenance
agreements; marketing and distribution agreements; agreements for
the sale and purchase of software and technology; agreements including
copyright, patent and other intellectual property issues; Randy
also has experience in the procurement of information technology
services and software and IT project reviews and rescues. He has
presented at and attended a number of specialized seminars in the
field, addressing issues ranging from contracting computing resources
to the legal principles and strategies for internet commerce and
information exchange.
Privacy Law
Randy’s privacy law experience includes:
1. Assisting clients in the interpretation of Personal Information
Protection and Electronic Documents Act.
2. Assisting clients in the interpretation of The Local Authority
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and The
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
3. Presenting to groups and clients on Privacy Law matters.
4. Assisting clients to complete of Privacy Impact Assessments.
5. Assisting clients with Privacy Law compliance plans.
6. Assisting the HealthCare Provincial CIO forum Privacy sub-committee,
Health Regions and other HealthCare organizations to interpret
and implement the Health Information Protection Act (HIPA).
7. Assisting with the development of Privacy Impact Assessments
for Region-wide and Provincial-wide HealthCare programs and IT
applications. For example, Randy assisted in the development
of a Privacy Impact Assessment for the Sask Provincial Pharmaceutical
Information Project (PIP).
8. Presenting to health professionals on HIPA and other privacy
matters.
9. Participating in the development of the Privacy and Security
blueprint document for Canada Health Infoway.
The majority of Randy’s experience in the Privacy Law area
relates to the intersection between privacy law and IT.
Health Law
Randy’s experience in the health law area is focused on
privacy and information technology, however he provides general
counsel services to a number of clients in the healthcare field.
