Brian Barrington-Foote
has practised in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan for
30 years, and has broad experience in both public and private
practice. Brian's public sector experience includes a term as
Deputy Minister of Justice for Saskatchewan where he played a
lead role in a wide variety of legislative, labour, regulatory,
human resource, law enforcement, governance and intergovernmental
projects and negotiations, and in the management of public issues.
Brian's public sector experience continues to be a cornerstone
of his private practice.
Brian has diverse experience as a private practitioner. He
has represented First Nations and corporate clients in a
wide variety
of commercial projects and complex negotiations, including the
development of a major casino, an electrical generation facility,
an oil sands project, and a US manufacturing facility. He has
particular expertise in the structuring of joint ventures
with First Nations,
and as general counsel for First Nations. In that capacity, he
provides advice on a broad range of public and private law issues,
including land development, labour and employment, tax and corporate/commercial
matters, as well as Band governance, bylaws and land claims and
Treaty rights.
