Agribusiness
MLT practices at the very heart of western Canadian agriculture.
As one of the pioneers in the field of agribusiness, we have been actively involved in hundreds of projects. Our experience covers virtually all facets of agribusiness law, including establishing unique grain marketing agreements and grain condominiums, protecting the rights of plant breeders, securing strategic alliances, addressing regulatory issues, working with agricultural product marketing boards, and drafting licensing agreements.
Our lawyers have worked closely with co-operatives, grain companies, ag-biotech companies, feedlots, livestock operations, ethanol plants, food processing facilities and many other agribusiness organizations to devise innovative business structures, to secure financing, to assist with project procurement and construction, and to address regulatory and taxation issues.
We have assisted producers and producer groups in both Alberta and Saskatchewan to develop value-added business opportunities, and expand into new markets. Many of these arrangements have involved agreements between local producers and major industry players from within Canada and abroad.
We have also acted for lenders and venture capitalists who provide capital to the agricultural sector, helping to negotiate specialized financing and partnership agreements to benefit all parties involved. Understanding the needs of agribusiness – as well as the needs of those providing capital to the industry – provides MLT with a full-spectrum view that helps us to add value to our industry clients and their business operations.
